August 2022
Welcome! My name is Mr. Bass and I will be your child’s teacher this year. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I have taught for 15 years St. Mary Magdalen School. I am a member of Padre Serra Parish and sing in the choir every Sunday. I studied history and political science at UCLA and received my teaching credential from CSU-Northridge.
Welcome to my St. Mary Magdalen page for middle school social studies and religion.
I am the homeroom teacher for sixth grade. I teach 6-8 grade history and technology and 5th grade math.
Technology is a tool that allows me to differentiate instruction. What this means is I will use technology to reach all learners, all levels and master the academic skills and then go beyond. As you know, we have a 1:1 technology plan
We have an excellent junior high program here. Your child will have me for social studies. Mrs. Winter or Mr. Jackson will be their literature teacher. I will be there helping in opening lockers, getting materials and learning to be organized and prepared for several teachers. This is a unique challenge and opportunity to get ready for some of the demands of high school.

Remember, homework is due in the morning, the day the teacher asks for it.
1) Be on time and prepared (having all materials that you need for class).
2) Respect yourself, others, and their property.
3) Stay in your seat.
4) Listen attentively to your teacher and classmate(s) participating.
5) Follow directions and make sure you understand all directions.
6) Be positive about your learning and what you will accomplish this year!
6th graders should expect about 90 minutes of homework every night but it won’t always be in social studies, literature, math or religion. I will tend to assign more long term projects than reading homework. It is vital your child uses the planner to copy homework assignment from each teacher as he/she changes classes. I will NOT accept late homework – per school policy.
The 6th grade curriculum includes a study of early history and the ancient world. In science, the focus is earth science, including earthquakes, erosion, and continental drift.
